Welcome to the Calgary Police Service crime mapping web site.
Being a police service dedicated both philosophically and operationally to the concept of community-based policing, the Calgary Police Service strives to involve community members in every effort to keep Calgary safe for its citizens and visitors. This web application was developed to provide citizens of Calgary with an interactive mapping tool, to assist them in learning more about activity in their communities, and to engage them in problem-solving. It enables users to search the Calgary Police Service’s records management system, and map reported crime in one or several crime categories. Data can be searched by crime type, time period, and community boundary. There are 12 categories of crime available for searching, including arson, assault, attempted murder, break and enter (2 types), vandalism, robbery, sexual offences, theft (3 types), and homicide. Each category is represented by a different symbol, which will help users to identify which crimes are happening in their community and when they are occurring. The application accesses information for the specified date range, and can retrieve and display information going back as far as 6 months.
The Calgary Police Service crime mapping program provides mapped locations of reported crimes from selected violation types. The locations identified on the map are intended to indicate the block in which the incident occurred and are not intended to enable the user to identify the exact incident location. The data are susceptible to a degree of error due to the complexities involved in compiling and programming the data.
